John Todd was the cellist in the Coull String Quartet from 1985 to 2000. With them he gave concerts and broadcasts throughout the world, and made over 20 CDs for various labels such as Hyperion, ASV, Upbeat and Somm. As a soloist he has performed recitals and concertos in the UK, Europe and the Far East, and has recorded for BBC Radio. Prior to that he was a member of the London Symphony Orchestra and co-principal cellist in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. John has taught cello and chamber music at the Conservatoire since 1986, and was appointed Head of Strings in 2003. Since leaving full time playing in 2000 he has also become increasingly in demand as a coach, adjudicator and director. John is a member of the Associated Board’s diploma examining panel.
