Simon Hall’s musical interests are wide-ranging, which is reflected in his range of work: He is active as a composer, producer, engineer, bass trombonist, and educator. He is currently responsible for the Conservatoire’s delivery of the BSc degree in Music Technology. In addition he co-ordinates and delivers a range of teaching in and out of the studio environment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Simon also managed the Conservatoire's 'Music for Media' project, funded by Advantage West Midlands.
Simon's compositional research interests are primarily based around electronics. Stylistically he draws on an eclectic cross-section of sources and techniques combined within the electroacoustic genre. His works have been performed internationally.
Research & Teaching Specialisms
- Research: Composition research based on the interaction of acoustic instruments with live electronics, electroacoustic composition for multi-channel fixed media; works that cross the boundaries between the two areas.
- Teaching: Co-ordinates Conservatoire provision for the BSc(Hons) Music Technology. Also delivers a variety of Sound Recording, Critical Studies and Composition-based teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
