Fumiko Miyachi’s music draws inspiration mainly from her multi-cultural background: Japanese and European, which are seemingly at odds with each other. Her interest lies in searching for a hybrid between the two cultures on levels of aesthetic, deeper musical understanding and meaning, always striving for clarity in her music. She is an active pianist in both contemporary and traditional repertoire and has given numerous performances. She is also a founding member of decibel for whom she has written a number of works and also premiered a wide range of new works including pieces by Michael Finnissey and Diana Burrell.
