Catherine White studied at the Curtis Institute (BMus) under Marilyn Costello of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Juilliard School (MMus) with Susann McDonald. After winning several prestigious prizes in her native USA, she toured widely, presenting hundreds of solo and chamber concerts, as well as broadcasts for National Public Radio (USA), Czech Television and the BBC. More recently, she has been a featured soloist with the Ulster Orchestra, the Birmingham Chamber Orchestra, and the Worcester Chamber Orchestra, as well as performing chamber music with the Gaudier Ensemble, among others.
Catherine also has extensive orchestral experience, performing as principal with the Ulster Orchestra from 1989 to 2004. She has performed often with many of this country’s finest ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, English National Opera, the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, etc.
Another aspect of her career has been performing and arranging light music for harp. She has entertained notables ranging from Frank Sinatra to the Prince of Wales, and has been honoured to play for British and foreign Royalty on many occasions.
Teaching has now become a major focus for Catherine. She previously held posts at both the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Trinity College of Music and now, in addition to her work with senior Conservatoire students, she also teaches talented young harpists at the Junior Conservatoire.
