Juniors
The Junior Conservatoire provides specialist tuition to talented young musicians on a part-time basis. Through a package of individual lessons, classes, regular workshops and masterclasses from visiting artists, we provide our students with access to a complete musical education. Our courses cover a number of genres and styles and, where the timetable allows, elements of different courses may be combined to as part of an individual training plan.
The Junior Conservatoire Day
The Junior Conservatoire runs on Saturdays during school term-time with classes and activities starting from around 9:00am. There are ten teaching days each term made up of a combination of individual lessons, chamber music, ensemble work, and musicianship classes incorporating theory and aural. Orchestras and larger ensembles meet in the afternoon. The Junior Conservatoire day finishes at around 5:00pm. It’s a long and involving day that demands a lot of enthusiasm and commitment. The make-up and length of each timetable will vary according to which course(s) you choose, and the level that you have reached. Younger students will usually begin with a shorter day.

Where can it lead?
The Junior Conservatoire trains young musicians to a level where they could gain a place at a senior conservatoire or music college. As well as taking Associated Board exams to grade eight and diploma levels, our students can enter the Conservatoire’s Recital Certificate, which is an ensemblebased exam for advanced students, validated by the Conservatoire’s parent institution, Birmingham City University.
