WHO’S IT FOR?
Open to anyone with a substantial interest in media music scoring, whether advanced enough to score for live orchestra, or looking to investigate scoring for the first time via MIDI. (See Entry Requirements below.) Numbers are strictly limited to 10, so please book early to avoid disappointment.COURSE CONTENT
This five-day intensive course on techniques for Composing for Film and Visual Media will take a three-pronged approach, covering:- skills: practical and theoretical approaches of composing to picture
- business development: practical tips on pitching for work
- networking: working with producers and developing relationships and networks
Live Orchestral Recording Opportunity
Participants will have the opportunity to have their work performed in a workshop recording session by some of the country's top session players.
COURSE RESOURCES
- For the duration of the course, each participant will have access to their own Intel iMac, running Logic Pro 8, Protools, Sibelius and a wide range of third party software including the highest end audio instruments and MIDI tools.
- Full technical support is available all week
- Recordings will be made in Conservatoire's Protools HD3-based studios, which adhere to the highest professional standards
- The course will be accompanied by course notes, handouts and other materials, written specially for this course by composer David Tobin
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- All participants must have a basic knowledge of MIDI and an understanding of basic MIDI editing and recording. Please note that MIDI editing on the course will be demonstrated in Logic 8. Prior experience of Logic is therefore desirable.
- Any participant wishing to take advantage of the Live Orchestral Recording Opportunity must first submit a CD/mp3 or score of previous work. Those wishing to apply must be fluent readers and writers of musical notation.
