Courses
Birmingham Conservatoire presents a unique choice in the higher music education market. The only UK conservatoire to also be a full faculty of a major university, we offer all the benefits of university student life in addition to the intensive individual training with leading professional musicians available only in music colleges.
Our 500 students enjoy the creative atmosphere of a music college in a dedicated building, located in the heart of the city within easy reach of Birmingham’s cultural attractions, including Symphony Hall. Our courses not only prepare you for the music profession, but also concentrate on building the transferable skills sought by all employers. At the same time, you will be part of a 25,000-strong university community, where a vibrant Students’ Union offers opportunities to get involved in everything from sport to community volunteering, and a network of skilled advisers can offer support (both academic and personal) and advice on funding, careers, housing and more.
Other benefits include excellent opportunities for creative collaboration with the Conservatoire’s partner faculties Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, Birmingham School of Acting and the Technology Innovation Centre, each located only minutes away from the Conservatoire.
At a time when students are expecting more from higher education institutions than ever before, Birmingham remains the only conservatoire able to offer a compromise between music college and university.

“Aspiring professional musicians can face difficult decisions when considering where to continue their studies, feeling they must balance the need for vital specialist training in performance or composition with the desire to have a broad and varied university experience. We are proud to be able to satisfy both dimensions in offering students world class training in music and access to the tremendous resources of one of Britain's largest universities.”
