Education & Outreach
Initiated in 2001, our UK-wide programme of educational activities for Music Services, schools, individuals and community organisations aims to increase participation in our activities and awareness of the Conservatoire; and to help Conservatoire students develop some of the skills needed to work in music education through practical experience.
These days, for a variety of reasons, the vast majority of professional performers and composers spend some time working in education. For this reason our Education & Outreach Programme provides an opportunity for undergraduate and postgraduate students to work within various educational settings, both as leaders or facilitators, and as assistants or shadow artists to our professional team.
In recent years we have delivered dozens of woodwind, brass and string Roadshows in Music Services around the country, giving approximately nearly 1000 young musicians the opportunity to work with our students and professional teaching team. Other projects have included a Continuing Professional Development Series for teachers, National Lower Strings Days, where over 100 cellists and double bassists descended on Birmingham to create a huge and completely unique sound; and national Brass Explosion! events.
We hope to continue the expansion of the programme in future years, enhancing the musical experiences of even more young people around the country.
